It started in a village smithy in Overloon: horseshoes, tools and farm equipment for the people around it. In 1956 the smith's family gave their trailers a name. Seventy years later, that name still stands for craftsmanship you can rely on.

Henra's roots lie in the village smithy of the Henckens family in Overloon. For generations they made and repaired what their community needed: horseshoes, tools and agricultural equipment.
Skills passed from one generation to the next - a tradition built on practical work and local trust.
In 1932, 21-year-old Huub Henckens took charge of the family smithy. When war destroyed the workshop, he and his wife Henny rebuilt their livelihood while raising seven children.
The first trailers grew out of everyday needs - including one their son Piet built from leftover materials. As demand grew, trailer building became the company's future.
A larger workshop on Oploseweg gave Henra room to expand. Huub's sons Piet and Jan took over in 1970, new factory halls followed in 1979, and by 1983 Henra focused entirely on trailers. In 1986 it acquired fellow Overloon manufacturer Waco.
There was room for character too: in 1988 a German customer received a horse trailer painted entirely orange for the European football championship.
Edward Henckens, Jan's son, took the helm in 1998. Henra grew into an exporter, sending over 65% of its trailers to nine European countries.
Behind that growth were craftspeople who gave Henra decades of their working lives. After the financial crisis, new ownership in 2013 carried Henra's reputation for quality into a new chapter. Demand peaked during the COVID period, when Henra built more than 8,000 trailers in a single year.
In February 2024 Henra became part of Unitrailer Holding, which later also acquired Saris Aanhangers. Production moved from Overloon to Hapert.
Its connection to Overloon continues through a local dealership and the people who preserve its history. In 2026, Henra celebrates seventy years.
